Today I have been making a doubly special apple & almond dessert cake
Special firstly because the recipe is from my darling goddaughter's grandmother (the tag line for the recipe is "once you have made this you will stop making apple pie")
And secondly every ingredient apart from the apples and sugar is way past its best-before date - Almonds (03/2010) , Flour (10/2010), (Duck) Eggs (last week - bit of a risk there), Butter (01/2011), Almond Essence (12/2008), Baking Powder (12/2009). This is a sort of test and also because I hate wasting food.
It was fine!
But don't get "best-before" confused with "use-by"
